Does a custom domain with compartmentalized email addresses reduce exposure risk? [closed]

I am exploring ways to improve personal and family email security and privacy. My current plan is:

  • Obtain custom domain (e.g. myfamilydomain.org)
  • Set up compartmentalized addresses on this domain:
    • banking@
    • bills@
  • Forward emails from custom addresses to ProtonMail inboxes
  • Use ProtonMail emails for registering accounts/online services (Netflix, Reddit...)

With this approach compartmentalizing email accounts on my owned domain, I want to know:

Does having separate custom email addresses for registering accounts reduce exposure risk in the event of an account or service provider suffering a data breach resulting in login credentials being dumped publicly?

My assumption is that by using compartmentalized email addresses rather than a small number of inboxes, a breach of any individual login email will not expose credentials associated with other critical services I rely on.

Please confirm if this line of thinking is correct regarding mitigating breach risks. Also open to other perspectives on managing family privacy and reducing attack surfaces related to custom domain email compartmentalization.
