What is taiwanprotect(dot)click, is it safe, and how did I get there?
I had tried to type news.google.com into an Incognito tab of the Chrome browser on macOS. I don't think I mistyped it, but that is possible.
What appeared was a big red window with a "McAfee Virus Warning" telling me I'm at risk and I should push the button to start a scan. The url in the top bar said taiwanprotect(dot)click. I am browsing in Taiwan, and there's always pervasive hacking attempts, especially now leading up to an event on May 20.
Is it possible to find out exactly what site this is, how safe it is (or isn't) and possible ways I might have ended up there?
