Is there any USB flash drive that supports ATA / NVMe style Secure Erase?
Is there any USB flash drive on the market that supports ATA / NVMe style Secure Erase?
After searching the internet for a while, it seems that everything I could find that claims to support Secure Erase is either a HDD/SDD drive or is using some vendor-specific protocol that requires special software to operate.
A USB drive purchasable from Amazon that
- encrypts all blocks using a key held in the controller
- the encryption is transparent to the host (i.e. the host see it as a usual block device)
- I can issue a Secure Erase command with CLI (bash or any *nix shell) to command the controller erase the previous encryption key
- this can be relaxed a bit: if the Secure Erase command can be issued via a few ioctl calls it's perfectly fine with me
