Is it true that 98% of cyber attacks involve social engineering? [closed]
I saw a post on Twitter/X recently where someone stated that 98% of cyber attacks involve social engineering. There was no source attributed so I just Googled it and found that the number is most likely attributed to a report from Purplesec. That specific number is referenced on this page which is a link to this page where I can no longer find reference to the 98%. Not to be dismayed, I clicked one more link to read "the report" where I could also not find the 98% statistic.
So where did this 98% statistic originate from? I can see it referenced on dozens of websites including Yale Cybersecurity and CompTIA.
