WhatsApp sends a authentication code via a call. Android doesn’t block calls with a locked screen
WhatsApp (and many other services) has the option to receive the login code through a phone call.
Steps:
- attempt to log into WhatsApp on another phone with your number
- click on the button saying you didn't get the number on your WhatsApp chat
- choose the option to send via SMS or phone call
On Android, it's impossible to prevent calls from being answered while the screen is locked. So, anyone who steals my phone, even if it's eSim and locked, can get into my WhatsApp. Worse than that, other services allow sending code to WhatsApp instead of SMS.
My WhatsApp has 2FA which would prevent this, but other services might not.
What can be done? All the official communication channels basically reply with AI.
