What do all the Yubikey protocols actually do?

I have just recently purchased a Yubikey 5, the original plan was to use this as a 2FA instead of an authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator) so I'm not always reaching for my phone, and get the benefit of physical security. I'm also interested in potentially trying it for passkeys (if I can set up a backup device too with the same passkey) to login to something like a password manager.

However I've been reading about all the various things it does such as Fido2, OTP, U2F etc. I don't really understand what all this means, so could someone provide an example of when you might use each in layman's terms to de-mystify these meanings?

Here's a page with the various protocols supported https://support.yubico.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013708340-YubiKey-5-Nano
